Palmerton reappoints fire chief

Palmerton has reappointed its incumbent fire chief and assistant fire chief to their respective posts.

On a 4-0 measure, with one abstention, council reappointed Larry Zawaly as fire chief. Councilmen Jason Behler, Richard Nothstein, Kris Hoffner, and council President Terry Costenbader were in favor, with an abstention from Councilwoman Holly Sell.Council then approved, on a 3-0 measure, with abstentions from Behler and Sell, Dennis Behler as assistant fire chief.In addition, council on Thursday agreed to purchase a 25-foot flagpole to place outside the Palmerton Municipal Fire Company, as well as additional gear racks for inside the newly-constructed dwelling.The motion to erect the flagpole and purchase additional gear racksz passed on a 4-0 measure, with Sell again abstaining.In other business, council, on a 5-0 vote:• Approved the Princeton Pines escrow agreement assignment.• Granted permission for the Palmerton Community Festival to be held Sept. 5-7 in the borough park.• On behalf of the Bo Tkach Foundation, approved the Bo Tkach Turkey Trot to be held on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27.• Approved the annual Easter Egg Hunt to be held in the borough park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 12, with a rain date of April 13.On a 4-0 vote, with an abstention from Costenbader, council:• Approved Family Promise to hold a bed race in conjunction with the Pace-Makers Association Car Show.
