Students bring holiday spirit

Some students really know how to cook up good, old-fashioned holiday spirit.

Just ask St. John Neumann Regional School students, who did exactly that during the school's annual Christmas Show held recently at Assumption BVM Church in Slatington. As part of the show, the students performed their musical, Christmas in the Kitchen. Students made cookies, which helped tell the Christmas story, according to instructor Mary Hartz. She said the musical began with Mary and Joseph, whose foot-shaped cookies made their feet skip on their long journey to Bethlehem. The animals in the barn discovered that God has given each of them something that they can give away to the newborn savior to show their love, she said.Along with milk, eggs and wool, the barn animals delivered heart-shaped cookies to Mary and Joseph. The angels delivered smiley-face cookies to the shepherds when they told them that God's promised savior is lying in a manger, and he brings joy to the whole world. The shepherds take star-shaped cookies to celebrate the light that Jesus brings to all our lives.Hartz said the program also included six original songs with motions, sign language, and dancing.
