New Year's resolutions

Well, another Christmas is in the books.

The real reason for the season, Jesus Christ, has been born, Santa Claus has come and gone, and the presents, which wrapped so neatly and piled under the tree prior to the holiday, are scattered around the living room as my 1-and-a-half-year-old son Logan plays with the boxes they came in.But now that "the most wonderful time of the year" is over (and I really think the person or business who coined that phrase for Christmas should be smacked upside the head because Christmas is stressful stores become war zones and I have a tendency to become the grinch because there is just too much to do to prepare for the holiday that seems to start three months before it actually happens), we begin to think ahead to New Year's celebrations. And with the new year comes New Year's resolutions.I've pretty much given up on making any resolutions over the past few years because I'm a chronic resolution breaker. Many of you know what I mean by that.I'm usually good for the first few days (or hours some years), but most of the time, new dreams of bettering myself or setting unrealistic goals quickly turn to maybe-next-year hopes and laughable wishes. But for some, the new year is all about setting goals for themselves. Some of these are big like saving money, losing weight or quitting a bad habit, while others are just little tweaks to everyday life like being kinder to people, choosing to eat healthy twice a week or learning to take life one day at a time.I mean millions of people will be making resolutions for 2015 as the big glowing ball drops in Times Square Wednesday night. I just won't be one of them as I watch the event from the comfort of a friend's living room. But if you are one of those people who love to make resolutions, I wish you the very best of luck in making (and keeping) your promise to yourself.Instead of a resolution, I have decided to send you, our readers, a wish as we tick down the last days of 2014:May everyone have a very happy, healthy, profitable and loving new year with friends and family.May your hopes and dreams become reality. And may you enjoy the little things along your journey that make life so worth living. Now let the resolutions begin!
