Zion Opera Workshop will be holding open auditions

Zion Opera Workshop, the longest continually running theater group in Carbon County, will be holding open auditions on Friday for their annual show.

The auditions will be held at 1 and 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of Zion United Church of Christ, Second and Iron streets, Lehighton.The group puts on one Broadway-style show each year and more recently has started performing an annual summer outdoor Broadway Revue. This year's show will be Irving Berlin's "Annie Get Your Gun."Show dates will be Thursday, March 5; Friday, March 6 and two shows on Saturday, March 7.The group is open to any person who is in ninth grade and up. The group consists of students and adults.This year's show does require a few children's parts and there will be auditions for children's roles for children younger than ninth grade. Children who are interested in auditioning should be able to read fluently and be able to sing. Please note that the children's roles for this show are limited in number.Rehearsals will be held on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. There will also be rehearsals on Tuesday and Thursday evening but attendance to these rehearsals will depend on the scenes being worked on those evenings.In addition to preparing for the show, the group also offers activities for its members following rehearsals which many times include murder mystery parties and movie nights.If interested in auditioning, you will be asked to do a reading, and if the role includes singing, you will be asked to sing a small portion of a song which will be demonstrated first.The show will be directed by Bradly R. Cressley, director of Music at Zion UCC with stage direction by Jessica Schafer.Technical directors for the group are Duane and Pati Reichard and the choreographer is Deb Strausberger from TNT Dance.
