Holiday crafting eases stress

Nothing like a crafty art project to get your mind off the stress that the holidays can sometimes bring on. New Seasons, a free membership program for people over the age of 50, held a Christmas party recently at the Blue Mountain Palmerton Campus. Seventeen women attended the Holiday Post Brunch 'N Learn. Those in attendance enjoyed a light lunch and then were able to make a variety of different crafts under the leadership of art therapist, Kathy Karanink. It is reported that crafting can focus the mind which can ease stress and increases happiness during the hectic holiday season. The program was under the leadership of Mary Lou McGeehan, Coordinator of Community Education at BMHC. Adrianne Vasiliou of Summit Hill and Linda Deutsch of Walnutport try their hand at paint stenciling wrapping paper while art therapist Kathy Karanink guides them. Karanink said that sitting down and doing a simple craft can ease up on the stress that can be build up within the body during the holiday rush.
