Pottsville man facing numerous charges

A Pottsville man has been charged by Coaldale Police following a traffic stop on Nov. 18.

An officer was on patrol at 1:46 a.m. that day, traveling west on Route 209. In front of him was a red pickup, which was weaving back and forth across the travel and fog lanes.The officer stopped the Chevrolet Silverado and identified the driver as John Michael Joulwan, 51, of Pottsville. Joulwan did not have a driver's license, and a records check determined his license had been suspended. The registration on the truck had expired in September.Joulwan was given and failed field sobriety tests. He agreed to have blood tests done and was taken to St. Luke's Hospital-Miners Campus. A pat-down search, conducted before Joulwan was placed in the squad car, turned up two syringes and two plastic baggies with a white powder residue.Blood tests were positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine and THC. Joulwan was charged with three counts of driving under the influence of a controlled substance (one for each drug), possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license, driving in the wrong lane and failure to have a valid registration.
