Charges filed against Tamaqua man

A traffic stop in Coaldale on Oct. 10 resulted in charges against a Tamaqua man.

An officer on patrol at 2:05 a.m. that day saw a blue Chevrolet pickup traveling east on Route 209 at what appeared to be a high rate of speed. The officer noticed the right brake light was not working and stopped the truck. He then noticed the tires had no tread left on them. The driver was given written warnings and five days to fix the violations. In plain view in the back seat of the truck, were a case of beer and a case of mixed alcoholic drinks that were being "delivered to a friend in Lansford."However, no one in the vehicle was 21. The officer asked for permission to search the vehicle.Inside the truck he found the alcohol, 15 yellow pills with the number 40 and the letters OP on them; two white pills with IP/272 on them; and $28 in cash. All were inside a jacket, which was owned by Shawn James Carter, 19, of Tamaqua.Carter first said his friend Tony in Lansford had given him the drugs to hold for him. He later admitted he was selling the drugs for his "friend."He was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and underage drinking.
