Fire company donates $100K

Lehigh Fire Company No. 1 Social Quarters has contributed $100,000 to Lehighton toward the purchase of a new custom pumper truck from Kovatch Mobile Equipment.

The total cost of the pumper is $370,261. The borough, along with the Lehighton Firemen's Relief Association, had funded the balance of the pumper truck, which is anticipated to be delivered in the summer."The Borough of Lehighton is thankful for the contribution toward the new custom pumper for the Lehighton Fire Department." said borough Manager Nicole Beckett. "Purchasing new fire equipment is a difficult decision due to the costs, however it is necessary."Beckett added "the $100,000 contribution from Lehigh Fire Company No. 1 had allowed us to continue to save funds for future use. We appreciate the relationship with Lehigh Fire Company No. 1 and their support of the Lehighton Fire Department."Bernie Mieczkowski said the Lehigh Fire Co. No. 1 used monies from the social hall to distribute to the community. Mieczkowski the social hall was able to contribute to the borough, as well as surrounding areas.Borough Council President Grant Hunsicker said the borough would like to thank the Lehigh Fire Company No. 1 for their generous contribution toward the new truck.Borough Fire Chief Gary Frable also wanted to thank the social quarters for being there for the fire department.Lehigh Fire Company No. 1 had also donated $14,000 for replacement hose for the fire department, Beckett said.Additionally, Beckett said the fire company has also previously contributed to the borough police department, as well as the Lehighton 150th Anniversary Committee.
