Seniors celebrate summer

It was a day of fun for a number of Carbon County senior citizens Wednesday during the annual senior picnic.

During the event, which was held at the Beaver Run Rod and Gun Club in Lehighton, dozens of men and women from the five county senior centers were treated to games, prizes, dancing and a day out with friends and food.Anne Horrigan, of the Carbon County Area Agency on Aging and the coordinator of the Carbon County Senior Games, said the picnic was hosted through the senior centers and Area Agency on Aging and was open to the public."We thought we would make it like an old-fashioned picnic and celebrate summer," Horrigan said. "It's a good time for them to get together at the end of the summer."The pavilion was filled with the sounds of laughter and good times as the people gathered with friends from other centers, some of whom they might have not seen since the Senior Games this past May.Area musician Danny Farole was also in attendance to provide the group with a round of entertainment and invited everyone to sing along as he performed two patriotic songs.
