Rush Twp. OKs two zoning requests

During a meeting Tuesday, Rush Township's Zoning Hearing Board approved the requests of two applicants, one who wants a pole building, and one who wants to operate a beauty salon in her home.

The first applicant, Michael Kurtz, 70 Jones St., Quakake, will be constructing a 40-by-50 pole building to shelter vehicles and tractors. Kurtz told the board that he had previously rented a garage from a neighbor, but that property is for sale. Board solicitor Bill Burke asked Kurtz to add the stipulation that the building will be for personal use only, and the board then unanimously approved the project. The second applicant, Sara Kunkel, 20 Oxford St., Tamaqua, wants to operate a beauty salon in the home she owns with her husband, Michael. To have a home occupation at the single-family dwelling, the Kunkels needed a special exception. In response to questions from the board, Sara Kunkel said the business hours will be from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., and from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. There will be separate access to the business portion of the home and just a small sign on the porch, she said. The board also gave unanimous approval to that application.
