Polk Township Supervisors hear road work update

Road work updates were among topics presented at the Polk Township supervisors meeting Monday.

Brian Ahner, Polk Township supervisor chairman and roadmaster, said the road crew has completed the shoulders on Smith Road, most of the township roads have had the grass and foliage cut, several loads of modified stone have been hauled for the edges of the roads that need it, and Dorshimer Road will receive 1 to 1 1/2 inches of blacktop patches where needed.Ahner said the township's recycling center received the new dumpsters they ordered after receiving a grant. They will see if the old dumpsters can be repaired.C.J. Dickinson, business manager of the West End Community Ambulance Association, reported it responded to 34 calls in July. The next auxiliary meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Saylorsburg station on old Route 115.The township received favorable comments about a Pleasant Valley student, Dylan Buck, who has been working at the recycling center for his senior project. Resident Milton Faust thanked the board for having the young man there."He's a good kid," Ahner said.Gerald Zurat, Polk zoning officer, reported the township issued 26 permits, did 14 inspections, has three permits pending, two permits for second stories being added to homes, received two formal and two verbal complaints.The township received bids for the roof on the back garage. The lowest bid was awarded to M.J. Shisslak General Contractor, Kresgeville. The job is being broken down into three sections. The hope is to have two sections completed before cold weather sets in.The board approved, 3-0, to have corrected changes made to the township employee handbook in regards to the type of disability offered and information on coverage for part-time employees.There will be two conditional use hearings today, one for the Daniel Angione property at 1 p.m. and VALOR Clinic at 1:30 p.m. These will be followed by a special business meeting at 2 p.m.
