In an opportunity to better serve the cancer needs of patients, the Dale and Frances Hughes Cancer Center has added four highly skilled physicians. These physicians offer convenient, university-level care to patients right here in the community.

Michael Marte has joined the Hughes Cancer Center team as a full-time medical oncologist. He comes from the San Antonio Military Medical Center where he served on the hematology and oncology staff. Before this position, he was chief of hematology/oncology at the William Beaumont Army Medical Center. Board-certified in internal medicine, hematology and oncology, Marte has been involved in the training of interns, residents, fellows and nursing staff and served as a principal investigator for research protocols. He received his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York and completed both an internal medicine residency and his fellowship in hematology/oncology at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center.Christine Kim joins the center from Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center and the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Thomas Jefferson University. Kim is a gynecologic surgical oncologist trained in robotic surgery. Highly skilled in minimally invasive laparoscopy (including the da Vinci Robot), she performs fertility-sparing procedures including radical trachelectomy for early stage cervical cancer, radical ovarian tumor debulking, and sentinel lymph node mapping for gynecological malignancies. Kim received her medical degree from SUNY at Stony Brook School of Medicine, performed her residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York and completed her fellowship in GYN surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.Patients will now have access to the expertise of Michael Ramirez, a medical oncologist from Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Thomas Jefferson University, specializing in second opinions for cancer diagnoses. Board certified in internal medicine, hematology and medical oncology, Ramirez received his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine, where he also performed a residency. He completed his fellowship at Duke University Medical Center.Also joining the center is Gennady Bratslavsky, professor and chairman of the department of urology at SUNY Upstate Medical University. Before SUNY, he was a member of the senior staff at the National Cancer Institute, where he also completed his fellowship in urologic oncology. Active in both clinical and basic science research, Bratslavsky also performs robotic surgical procedures. He is a graduate of Albany Medical College, where he received his degree with distinction in research and completed a residency in urologic surgery.
