Lehighton's addition to its Light & Power building will be turned over to the borough and contractor for completion.

At a special meeting Friday morning, borough council on a 6-0 vote agreed to proceed with the building withoutengineering. Councilman John Kreitz was absent.

In a related matter, council approved a change order for the Light & Power building, which is a credit of $9,513.

Council in June awarded a bid to C&E Ankiewicz, of Mountain Top, Luzerne County, in the amount of $487,082.

With the credit, the cost of the building is $477,569.

The 72-foot-by-105-foot pole building will be an addition to the borough's existing Light & Power building located at 551 Bridge St.

Borough Manager Nicole Beckett previously said the addition will consist of a four-bay garage, plus the potential for extra office space.

Beckett previouslysaid the borough had set aside $400,000 from this year's light and power budget to pay for the project.

The rest of the cost will be paid from the borough's capital fund, Beckett said.

She said the project has been in the works since 2007.
