Lions board meets

The Western Pocono Lions Club board of directors will meet at the Western Pocono Community Library at 7 o'clock tonight. All Lions are welcome.At the club's July meeting, the speaker was from Family Promise of Monroe County. The organization helps homeless families get back into permanent housing with the help of area churches.The club voted to give Family Promise a donation.Lioness speakersThe Western Pocono Lioness Club had several guests at its last meeting. The second of two scholarship winners, Christina Adam and her mother Elaine, joined the club and Christina read her essay and answered some questions. Club President Ruth Smith says that the club's choices this year were excellent.In addition, the club had an informative program by Amy Leiser from Monroe County Historical Society, with a slide show.Members of the club will tour Northeast Pennsylvania Lions Eye Bank in Bethlehem this Saturday.PVEN boardThe Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network board meeting will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville.Legion groupsThe 927 Riders are slated to meet at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the West End Memorial Post 927 home in Gilbert. The Sons of the American Legion will meet at 6:30 p.m.The auxiliary will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, and the Korean War Vets at 7 p.m. Tuesday.Free concertSage will perform a free concert from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Chestnuthill Township Park, 221 Route 715, Brodheadsville, as part of the summer concerts in the park sponsored by the West End Park and Open Space Commission.The group performs an eclectic mix of classic to contemporary pop.
