Penn Forest plans electronics recycling

Penn Forest Township will hold an electronics recycling day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 27 at the Penn Forest Township Transfer Station on 88 Transfer Station Road in Jim Thorpe.

Items that can be recycled for free include: telephones and cellphones, LCD monitors, LCD televisions, stereos and speakers, cords and cables, smart boards, keyboards, mice, UPS battery backups, laptop batteries, audio visual equipment, plotters, microwaves, small appliances, projectors, CRT monitors, desktop and laptop computers, gaming systems, printers, fax machines, floor copiers, copiers, scanners, print cartridges, metal items, calculators and adding machines, exercise equipment, DVD players, VCRs, and filing cabinets.Additional items can be recycled for a fee: refrigerators for $30, air conditioners for $20, dehumidifiers for $20, washers and dryers for $10 each, car batteries for $5 (sealed lead acid), floor freezers for $30, dishwashers for $20, televisions for $30 (unbroken), and televisions in wooden cabinet or big-screen projections for $40.Off-site hard drive destruction is $10 and includes a certificate of destruction.
