The senior graduation project of two Jim Thorpe Area High School students, with the participation of Kindergarten through Third Grade students from the L.B. Morris Elementary School in Jim Thorpe, has raised funds for UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund, shortened from its original name of United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund).

Funds raised for UNICEF help provide food, water, clothing, blankets, housing, schools, etc. for needy children around the globe in third world countries.The project was planned, coordinated, and had the coins and monies counted for by the two Senior students, Amanda Kattner and Danaee Mullen under the guidance of their advisor Jane Adams, a Business teacher at JTAHS.They sought and received the participation of the L.B. Morris students for "Trick or Treat for UNICEF" where they collected coins and bills on their Halloween night rounds instead of candy.Senior Amanda Kattner said that the elementary kids were very enthusiastic about helping out with such a worthy project and that the Jim Thorpe residents responded well with a lot of change donated.Amanda and Danaee, with the help of Renee Smith, Head Teller at the Jim Thorpe National Bank (JTNB), went to the bank's main office on Broadway to count the monies and have a check written to send off to UNICEF.The final tally for the money collected by the students amounted to $677.51, in addition to which JTNB wrote out a check for $122.49 for a total donation to UNICEF of $800 even.These funds will do a lot of good for those who need it the most.
