The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced that a roadway preservation project on Route 209 in Franklin and Towamensing townships, Carbon County, will begin today.

The project involves microsurfacing, which is the application of a layer of blacktop, and installing new pavement markings on Route 209 between Harrity Road in Franklin Township to Forest Inn Road in Towamensing Township.

The contractor plans to microsurface weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and paint lines for several hours at night after 7 p.m. Workers may work weekends if there is inclement weather during the week.

All work is expected to be complete by Sunday, Aug. 31.

Suit-Kote Corporation of Pittsburgh is the general contractor for the $277,573 project.
