LCCC student crowned fair queen

Jordan Behrens was named 2014 Carbon County Fair Queen on Monday night.

Behrens, 20, beat out the two other finalists, Melissa Nothstein, 17, of Lehighton, and Kaylyn Ahner, 16, of Lehighton. Nothstein finished as first runner-up, while Ahner was second runner-up."I'd like to say thank you to the fair committee and everyone involved," Behrens said. "I think agriculture is such an important part of the area."Behrens was crowned by Carissa Troxell, last year's Carbon County Fair Queen.For the first time ever, the Carbon County Fair Queen will compete at the state level at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center in January 2015.Behrens is the daughter of Josiah and Joann Behrens of Jim Thorpe. She attended Lehigh Carbon Community College for the past two years, and plans to transfer to Penn State University in the fall.She has participated in Family Promise of Carbon County, and was a past volunteer drum line instructor at Jim Thorpe Area High School, where she graduated.While in high school, Behrens was in the National Honor Society; chorus; history club; Students Against Destructive Decisions, where she served as treasurer her senior year; student council; marching band; concert band; jazz band; county band; prom committee and canteen and class treasurer her junior year.While at LCCC, Behrens was active in the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and a member of the Honors Scholar Program.She is a Eucharistic minister, altar server and volunteer for the children's church Christmas program.Her hobbies include cutting and baling hay, working outdoors, horseback riding, playing the drums and piano, weightlifting, and attending Broadway shows.
