School roof project planned

During a committee meeting Tuesday, members of the Tamaqua School Board gave a preliminary nod to some planned expenditures with substantial price tags.

Members of the Finance Committee approved spending $330,787 to replace a section of the roof at Rush Township Elementary School in Hometown.The district has repaired the roof in stages, with this repair to section B the final piece, said Superintendent Carol Makuta.The Finance Committee also approved the purchase of new textbooks, including $58,385 for books for the elementary schools and $13,676 for high school biology books. Both purchases are for the 2014-2015 school year.In other action by the Finance Committee, four repository sales were approved: 27 E. Elm St., Tamaqua, $780; 537 E. Elm St., Tamaqua, $1,005; 71 Sunny Drive, Mary D, $1,030; and 252 Cottage Ave., Tamaqua, $1,137.All expenditures approved by the finance committee must be approved by the full board during next week's meeting.
