Egg hunt

The newly reorganized North and Middle Ward Playground Association will sponsor a community Easter Egg Hunt on April 12, at the Washington Street playground. Registration will begin at noon, with the hunt scheduled to start at 2 p.m.Refreshments will be available.Pool passesApplications for season passes to the H.D. Buehler Memorial (Bungalow) Pool in Tamaqua will be available as of April 1. Opening day will be the day after the last day of the 2013-2014 school year (May 31 unless rescheduled).No season or daily passes will be available that day.Steeply discounted rates for Tamaqua Area School District residents are made available through the generosity of the John E. Morgan Foundation.Rates will remain the same as last year.Application forms, rate structures and additional information is available at Tamaqua Borough Hall, 320 E. Broad St.; the Tamaqua office of the TIMES NEWS, 200 E. Broad St.; the Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce, 114 W. Broad St.; the Tamaqua Public Library on South Railroad St.; Fegley's Mini Mart; and Our Family Mini Mart.Completed applications are to be taken to the borough hall.To ensure having your pass by opening day, have your application completed and submitted to the borough by April 30.For more information, call 570-668-3444 or 668-0300.Hunger walkThe Tamaqua Area Faith Fellowship Network will sponsor a "Hunger Walk" on May 18 in an effort to help local families in need.The walk will be the culmination of Hunger Weekend (May 17 and 18), when organizations, businesses, church groups and individuals will be encouraged to collect food and funds to benefit the food banks at the Tamaqua Salvation Army and Trinity United Church of Christ.The walk will begin and end at St. Luke's Tamaqua Family Practice parking lot on South Railroad Street.Walkers will leave the lot, headed north to Broad Street. They will then turn left (west) and walk to Catawissa Street (Odd Fellows Cemetery), then turn right to Lafayette Street and walk two blocks to Nescopec Street.Then it's back to Broad Street and return to the lot. Participants will be looking for sponsors.Zion LewistownThe Rev. Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley.
