The Seventh Annual Hunter Meckes Memorial Soccer Tournament will be held Sunday, April 13, at the Lehighton Area High School soccer fields. The event starts at 8 a.m. U-9 to U-18 teams will be playing. D.J. Larry will be spinning tunes and refreshments will be offered by Jim Thorpe High School Girls and Boys Booster Club, Carbon United Soccer Club and American Kettle Corn. Proceeds from a basket event will be donated to the Jim Thorpe Wrestling Booster Club. Also Printing 4-U will be offering Hunter Meckes T-shirts and hoodies. There will be swag tag and Schuylkill Valley Sports.

Proceeds from the soccer event will fund scholarships in the name of Hunter Meckes, which will be presented to seniors in Lehighton and Jim Thorpe schools at end-of-school-year award assemblies.The event is being coordinated by Hunter's mother, Sherry Meckes, with the assistance of the Lehighton Soccer Club. Meckes hosts the event every year so that her son's name will never be forgotten.Hunter Meckes died in an accident on Jan. 27, 2003. His mother has organized soccer tournament events for the past six years to raise funds for scholarships in his name because Hunter loved to play soccer."Hunter was also a wrestler," said Meckes. "I would like to give back to them, so they will be presenting an award to a young wrestler every year in Hunter's name."
