Judge John E. Domalakes of the Court of Common Pleas of Schuylkill County has announced he will be a candidate for retention and his name will appear on the Nov. 5 ballot at which time voters will decide whether to retain him.
Domalakes is a native and current resident of Frackville and a graduate of Immaculate Heart High School. He is an honors graduate of DeSales University and the Penn State Dickinson School of Law.
Elected to the bench in 1993, he was retained in 2003.
During his career he has tried hundreds of criminal and civil cases from criminal homicide, rape, burglary, robbery to medical malpractice, negligence, property disputes and custody.
He is an associate editor of the Schuylkill Legal Record and a member of the Schuylkill Bar Association's Civil Rules Committee in which capacity he served on a committee tasked with the responsibility of revamping all of the county's Civil Rules of Court to harmonize them with the rules of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
He has also served his profession as a lecturer and instructor for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute's Continuing Legal Education Program.
Domalakes has remained active in performing community service. He is a current member and past president of the Frackville Rotary Club having served as the club's SKIP chairman since the initiation of that program. He is also an active hiker and birder having served as a volunteer hike leader for the Schuylkill Conservation District for many years and he leads bird walks for the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. In 2011 he was recognized by the Schuylkill Conservation District with its Conservation Service Award.
A fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus he was honored in October 2003 with the Schuylkill Assembly's God and Country Award. He was also honored by the Frackville Lions and Rotary clubs as their Citizen of the Year in 2003 for his service to Frackville and Schuylkill County communities.
Domalakes is an active member of St. Joseph Parish in Frackville where he serves as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, block party volunteer and as president of its Holy Name Society. He is also an active member of the Anthracite Council 144 of the Knights of Lithuania, volunteering as a driver and deliverer of the ethnic foods at the council's annual Lithuanian Days festival. He is also a member of the county Historical Society and has researched and authored numerous articles on Schuylkill County history which have appeared in local publications. He is also a member of the Good Will Fire Company, Frackville, the B.P.O.E. and TPA.
Domalakes has been honored by both Cardinal Brennan High School and DeSales University with their distinguished alumni awards. He has been married for 43 years, has four adult children and five grandchildren.
