Safe Kids Carbon County and Pennsylvania State Troopers, Troop N, were on hand Tuesday to help parents learn about properly securing their child in a car seat.

During the event, held in the parking lot of WMGH/WLSH radio station in Lansford, certified car seat technicians and state troopers gathered to check car seats were properly installed in the vehicles, that they weren't expired or damaged, and that the child using the seat was secured safely.A total of 15 cars and 18 seats were checked during the five-hour free check, which was held in conjunction with National Child Passenger Safety Week.Safe Kids Carbon County and the Pennsylvania State Troopers urge all parents to make sure car seats are secured properly and that they follow the guidelines for children.According to the proclamation adopted by the Carbon County Commissioners last week, children under the age of 2 should be in a rear-facing car seat.Once they are toddlers, they should be in a forward-facing car seat, such as a convertible or combo seat, until the harness no longer fits and the child exceeds the height and weight limits.
