Enters medical profession

Kathryn Ashley Brandt, daughter of Dr. John and Karen (Rocuskie) Brandt of Lock Haven, is the third generation in her family to enter the medical profession, graduating from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Philadelphia, on June 2. She is the granddaughter of Dr. Albert and Sylvia Rocuskie of Hometown and the late Dr. John, Sr., and Mary Lou Brandt of Lock Haven.

Graduating in 2003 from Central Mountain High School, as class valedictorian, she was an active student athlete, continuing her athletic career at Swarthmore, playing basketball and softball. She graduated from Swarthmore College in 2007, with a bachelor of arts degree in Biology with a minor in Psychology. While at the college, she also conducted research in the biology and psychology departments.After graduating from college, she was employed as a Safety Assessment Intern for AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals. In 2008, she worked as a research technician in the Regulatory Systems Neuroscience Department at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.While attending the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, she was awarded the PCOM Foundation Scholarship in 2011.Dr. Brandt began her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Hahnemann University Hospital, Philadelphia, in June. She is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association and the American Medical Association.
