The Schuylkill United Way held its 2014 Campaign Kick-Off Breakfast Friday morning at Penn State Schuylkill with over 140 guests in attendance.

"This year's campaign goal is to raise $1,025,000," said William J. Folk III. "The money raised during the campaign stays in Schuylkill County, with over 80 percent allocated to the 15 partner agencies that offer a wide variety of programs and services and solely serve residents of Schuylkill County."

Folk said that at the start of campaign, $286,921 (28 percent of the goal) is already raised to date. Bob Weaver and Jay Jones, both co-chairs of the Pacesetters Club reported that of the money raised to date, $173,123 was pledged through the Pacesetters Club by 171 members.

Speakers at this year's breakfast included 2013 Schuylkill United Way Board President Patrick Kane - with the keynote speakers from the Avenues Agency. Campaign Chairman Jeff Wessner also spoke to the crowd about the 2014 "Together We Can" Campaign. Wessner was accompanied by Assistant Chairman Anthony Harbison.

"Schuylkill United Way has returned to an old tradition," said Folk III. "Instead of hosting two kickoff breakfasts, the Tamaqua Campaign Chairman Brian Connely will host a Mid Campaign Luncheon on Thursday, October 10th at 12 p.m. at DiMaggio's La Dolce Casa in Tamaqua." Connely will joined by Assistant Tamaqua Area Campaign Chairman Brian Seitz. "The goal for the Tamaqua Area is $125,000 which is included in the entire goal of $1,025,000," said Seitz. "To date, $59,086 has been pledged which is 47 percent of the Tamaqua Area goal."

The kick-off breakfast also featured a 2014 Campaign video was unveiled. The video was created via PPL and Video-Works Productions. "Both donated the money necessary so that the video this year was at no cost to the United Way," said Folk III. The video highlighted all of the Schuylkill United Way agencies in a "Together We Can" theme. "The video will be available this week on our website, www.schuylkillunitedway.org."

Throughout the campaign, Schuylkill United Way staff and volunteers will be giving employee presentations to local area businesses. These presentations will last no longer than 15 minutes and include valuable information about both the Schuylkill United Way and partner agencies along with a showing of the campaign video. Companies can also request to have the grand prize giveaway at their facility for all employees to see. If you would like to sign up for an employee presentation, call the Schuylkill United Way office at (570) 622-6421 to schedule.

By contributing, he said, you are eligible for the prizes based on the amount of the donation.
