St. Luke's University Health Network is sponsoring a Diabetes Support Group. Monthly meetings are held in the Miner's Cafe at the health network's Miners Hospital Campus in Coaldale.
Each month, a different diabetes relevant topic is explored. Topics are based on ways to improve blood sugar control and quality of life. Meetings are generally 45 minutes long and include a question and answer period.
This month's meeting will be held on Sept. 17. Reservations are not required. For more information, call (570) 645-8107.
The American Cancer Society is seeking volunteers to take part in a Cancer Prevention Study. In an effort to better understand how to prevent cancer, the study will follow a select group of volunteers willing to make a long-term commitment, which includes completing survey forms into the future.
The study group will be composed of men and women between the ages of 30 and 65, who have never been diagnosed with cancer.
An enrollment session will be held Sept. 17 at the LCCC Morgan Center on High Street.

The office of Tamaqua Tax Collector Alan Kerr will be closed all next week, from Sept. 9-15. The office will reopen at 9 a.m. on Sept. 16.
St. John Lutheran
The Rev. Jennifer Ollikainen will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Also on Sunday, Rally Day for Sunday school will begin at 10:30 a.m. and a mandatory meeting for Confirmation parents/students will be held at 10:30 a.m.
Next week's activities include: Monday, church council meets at 7 p.m.; Thursday, Angel Choir meets at 6 p.m., Shepherd Choir rehearses at 6:30 pm. and Chancel Choir practice is at 7:30 p.m.
Sept. 15 is National Back to Church Sunday.
The Rev. Brian Reading will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will include a celebration of Grandparents Day and Promotion Sunday. Sunday school for all ages will be held at 9:15 a.m.
Also on Sunday, an evening of cantata music will begin at 6:30 p.m., featuring a community choir, under the direction of Brenda Reed.
An evening prayer and share service is held Wednesdays at 7 p.m.
Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church is offering a Saturday worship service. The contemporary style service will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the church social hall and is led by seminary student Cindy White.
Sunday worship services are held at 9:30 a.m.
Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church's contemporary service is held at 10:30 a.m. Sundays, at the Tamaqua YMCA, not at 11 a.m. as previously published.
