A Coaldale man and woman face theft and related charges after snitching crates of iced tea and orange drinks from a movie theater.

Borough police charged Michael Kieffer, 29, and Sahara Welfel, 22, both of 52 Fifth St., with theft by unlawful taking or disposition, and receiving stolen property.

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Officer Joseph Krebs with District Judge Stephen Bayer of Tamaqua, here's what happened:

At 6 p.m. Oct. 17, Krebs was called back to the police station by officer Todd Weiss. When Krebs arrived, Weiss told him that the Angela Theater, at 115 E. Phillips St., had just gotten a delivery of two crates of iced tea and orange drink, which had been sitting outside the theater's doors.

A man who was sitting on a porch across the street saw a man and a woman take the crates. He described the woman as having blonde hair with black highlights, and said he believed the two went to a house at 150 Second St., about a half-block away.

Krebs went to the house, and a Keith McArdle answered the door. Krebs asked him who was in the house, and McArdle named all of the people. Krebs asked him if he knew anything about iced tea or orange drinks being brought there, and McArdle said he did not.

McArdle allowed Krebs inside to look around. Krebs saw a woman sitting in the yard in back of the house who matched the description given by the man who had been sitting on the porch.

Krebs brought the man to the house, and he identified the woman as the same one he had seen take the crates. The woman, Welfel, admitted that she and her boyfriend, Kieffer, had taken the drinks.

She called Kieffer and told him to come to the house and talk with Krebs. When Kieffer arrived, he and Welfel gave back the drinks, which they had been hiding on the side of the house.

Krebs arrested them, and took them to the police station to be processed.
