Since the inception of the SHINE Afterschool programs, results have proved that the model works for students who had been struggling academically and socially.

Here are a few highlights of the SHINE Career Academy for the 2013-2014 school year, as noted by state Sen. David Argall:• 100 percent of parents were pleased with the program;• 85 percent of students improved or maintained their academic performance;• 80 percent of students improved or maintained their classroom behavior;• 80 percent of students demonstrated or maintained completion of homework;• 78 percent of students improved or maintained daily school attendance.
