Lehighton boys soccer, field hockey teams get wins

Lehighton picked up wins in field hockey and boys soccer on Monday afternoon.

FIELD HOCKEYES North-LehightonLehighton defeated East Stroudsburg North in a Mountain Valley Conference match up, 1-0.Maddie Teno of Lehighton scored the games only goal in the second half.Lehighton improves to 6-8 on the season with the victory, 5-3 in league play.Northern Lehigh-BangorNorthern Lehigh fell to Bangor in a Colonial league contest, 2-1.The game went down to the final two minutes. Jessie Olewine of Northern Lehigh tied the game at 1-1 with 1:36 remaining.Just over 20 seconds later, Bangor's Olivia Fraunfeller scored what would be the game winning goal for the Slaters.Pen Argyl-N'westernPen Argyl was victorious against Northwestern, 4-2.Goals for Northwestern were scored by Brittany Morgan and Kassie Kilanowski. Paige Horner had both assists.Pen Argyl's offense was clicking as it accumulated 27 shots on gaol and 17 corners.BOYS SOCCERES North-LehightonLehighton hung on for the win in a Mountain Valley Conference match up against East Stroudsburg North, 4-3.Zach Christoff started the scoring for Lehighton at the 19-minute mark of the first half.The other three Lehighton goals came from Derek Berger, Anthony Farano, and Anthony Rossino.Tyler Dietz, goalkeeper of Lehighton, had six saves.Bangor- Pleasasnt VyPleasant Valley defeated Bangor, 2-0 in a non-league match.Connor Phillips and Gabe Baxevane-Connel scored for the Bears. Jess Lear had two assists for the winners.Brook Seyler had one save in the goal for Nolehi, as her team's offense outshot their opponents 30-1 in the game.Liberty-Pleasant VyPleasant Valley defeated Liberty 3-0 in a non-league match.Ema Sabovic netted two goals and Victoria Wiesmeth added another one for the Lady Bears.Babby Lucchese, Abby Leach, and Kaitlyn Smith all contributed assists for Pleasant Valley.Pleasant Valley improves to 12-1,(8-0) on the season.Minersville-J. ThorpeAfter trailing at halftime, Jim Thorpe came back to pull out a 2-1 win over Minersville.Down 1-0 at the break, Tayler Kidder tied things up midway through the second session, before teammate Isle Hassler scored the game-winner with just under six minutes to play.The Lady Miners outshot the Olympians 13-8 in the game, with Hannah Rinaldo scoring the sole goal in the first half.Cat Condly and Kidder had assists in the win.Alyssa Smith compiled 12 saves in the net, including plenty of crucial stops down the stretch.GIRLS VOLLEYBALLStroudsburg-LehightonAfter Lehighton won the initial set, Stroudsburg prevailed in the ensuing three to take the match, 20-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-21.Despite the loss, the Lady Indians got nice games from Jacki Jordan who finished with 17 kills and 17 digs, while Tiff Thompson had eight aces, nine kills, three blocks and two digs.Taylor Yurasits had 36 assists in the loss, with 14 digs and three kills, and Kayla Troutman had nine digs and seven kills.Lehighton won the JV game, 15-5 in the third and final set.N'western-Sch. HavenThe Lady Tigers defeated the Hurricanes 17-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-18 in a non-league match.No information was submitted to THE TIMES NEWS.Tamaqua-HazeltonHazleton defeated Tamaqua in straight sets 25-18, 25-21, and 25-17.Carly Trovinger finished the game with 15 assists, three kills and four digs in the losing effort for the Blue Raiders, while Rylee Devlin had six kills and teammate Talli Matukonis tallied six digs.The Lady Raiders also dropped the JV contest, as they lost, 2-0.Jim Thorpe-WeatherlyJim Thorpe defeaed Weatherly in three straight sets; 25-13, 25-12, and 25-14.Jocelyn DeMarco had seven kills and eight aces for the Lady Olympians.Other standouts included: Erin Shigo who had seven kills and five assists, Riley Carroll with 17 assists, four kills, nine digs, and Mackenzie Walck with six kills and a block.Kiersten Ursta of Weatherly had three assists and two digs, while Lexi Hartz contributed three assists, one dig, and one kill.ES South-Pleasant VyPleasant Valley was victorious at home in a Mountain Valley Conference match up with East Stroudsburg South; 25-4, 25-11, 25-4.Kiesten Griesback of the Lady Bears had 14 assists, two digs and two aces. MacKenzie Dorney contributed five kills and six digs. Courtney Miller had seven kills and two blocks.Bridget Lozier also had a good game with seven kills and three blocks; as did Alli Markowski whom had 10 assists.Pleasant Valley now has a MVC record of 7-1 with the victory.
