A recount of votes cast in the Nov. 5 General Municipal Election for the offices of district attorney for Schuylkill County, supervisor for Schuylkill Township, and mayor of Mahanoy City will take place tomorrow in the juror lounge in the rear of courtroom seven at the courthouse in Pottsville. The recount will begin at 9 a.m., according to an order issued by President Judge William E. Baldwin.
Incumbent District Attorney Karen Byrnes Noon, Democrat, is seeking a recount of the votes cast for district attorney. According to the official vote count released by the computing board, District Attorney-Elect Christine Holman, Republican, received 15,265 votes and Noon, 15,193, a difference of 72 votes.
Noon is basing her recount on the absentee ballots. There were 1,304 voted with Noon receiving 735 absentee votes and Holman 569. The absentee votes are included in the total count.
The contest for supervisor in Schuylkill Township was decided by one vote and the loser is asking for a recount. Charles J. Fayash, Republican, received 188 votes, and Linda A. Decindio, Democrat, 187.
In Mahanoy City, incumbent Mayor Nancy A. Petritsch, Democrat, received 475 votes and challenger Dennis Wiessner, Republican, received 472 votes, a difference of three votes.
