A Coaldale man has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following an incident in Tamaqua on Nov. 9.
Officer Joseph Krebs was on patrol at 2:29 a.m. in the area of Elm Street when he observed a gold Chevrolet pickup truck trying to exit a parking space. The driver, identified as Robert N. Vasiliou, 58, of 94 Miners St., backed up until the truck struck a parked blue Ford Edge. As the truck pulled away the officer attempted to get the attention of the driver, then initiated a traffic stop on Pine Street.
Vasiliou exhibited signs of intoxication and admitted having two drinks at the Happy Endings Bar on Railroad Street. A preliminary breath test indicated a blood-alcohol content of .275 percent, more than three times the legal limit of .08. Vasiliou refused to submit to a blood test.
