A 16-year-old Monroe County teen has been charged with breaking into the home of a relative and stealing a handgun.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said on Oct. 27 officers responded to 8120 Coco Drive, in Pocono Summit, to a report of a stolen pistol. On scene officers were told that while the residents of the home were out-of-town, the home was entered and a Ruger P89 9mm pistol was taken.

While speaking with the family the teen, who is a nephew of the victims, became a suspect. Officers went to the teen's home in the Birch Hollow development in Polk Township and recovered the pistol.

The teen was taken into custody and placed in the Northampton County Juvenile Detention Center pending a juvenile court hearing in Monroe County.

He has been charged with felony counts of burglary, theft, receiving stolen property, criminal trespass, and firearms-related crimes due to him being a minor.

Pocono police were asisted by state police at Lehighton in the investigation.
