2 drug suspects arraigned

Tamaqua Patrolmen Michael Hobbs (front) and Karl Harig (rear) escort Michele Murphy, 40, LKA 214 Pine St., Tamaqua, and Adam Kasten, 20, of 61 Coal St., Middleport, to their arraignment on drug related charges. The duo was arrested Thursday by Tamaqua Police, with assistance from New Philadelphia Patrolman Eric Sterner, after they allegedly made numerous drug deals in the Tamaqua and New Philadelphia areas. Murphy and Kasten were observed selling heroin on three separate occasions. Both face charges of conspiracy, felony counts of delivery of a controlled substance, felony counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, felony counts of criminal use of a communications facility and misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance. The charges were filed by Tamaqua Police Chief Rick Weaver and Officers Anthony Stanell and Thomas Rodgers. Murphy was also wanted on an outstanding warrant issued by Berks County Adult Probation.
