Pleasant Valley honors its academic best

Pleasant Valley High School's principal, John Gress announced the 2013 top honors at the 32nd Annual Academic Awards program. Evan Shipley is the valedictorian and Brandon Burger, salutatorian. Shipley received $6,000 from the A. Mattioli Scholarship and Burger received a $4,000 A. Mattioli Scholarship.

The Top 3 students with the highest academic average for each grade level are: ninth, Mary Cerbone, Abigail McLaughlin and Jennifer Mickens; 10th, Jennifer Braddock, Elizabeth Gillen and Nathaniel Rhoads; 11th, Kristina Adams, Kathleen Stanovick and Aracelis Velez; and 12th, Brandon Burger, James Korcienski and Evan Shibley.The Top 10 students who will have their names inscribed on the plaque on The Wall of Fame are: 12th, Kylie Bueti, Brandon Burger, Christina Everett, Bridget Fitzgerald, Emily Foster, Ashley Garrido, Amanda Jacubowsky, James Korcienski, Meagan Quinn and Evan Shipley.Senior Emily Foster was presented with an award for attaining a perfect 800 on the Reading SATs.The David G. Argall Good Citizenship Awards were presented to seniors Nicole Sarwar and John Wathen.Senior Devin Cetnar received the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Beth Paul Scholarship awards.The Ray Kroc McDonald's Recognition Award was presented to senior Shadai Johnson.Paul Nuzzo, senior, and Anthony Taldone, sophomore, received the American Math Competition awards.The FBLA awards were given to: 11th, Bryan Beck, Heather Ianuale and Josh Weidenbaum; 12th, Steven Magluilo and Nicole Sarwar.Principal Gress presented the Principal's Award to seniors Nicole Sarwar and John Wathen.Barbara Cortese, who will be retiring at the end of the 2012-2013 school year with 25 years teaching art at PVHS, presented the top awards from the art department. They are: seniors Kodey Bell, gold, Cassidy Roos, silver, Michayla Kelsch, bronze.Jenny Laubscher presented the Business Education/Computer Science awards to: ninth, Babatunde Olaniyan; 10th, Chantelle Lutz; 11th, Jordan Band; 12th, Nicole Sarwar.Philomena Reduzzi presented the English and yearbook awards.
