An inmate in the Carbon County Correctional Facility died Sunday morning in his cell.

The name of the 26-year-old man wasn't released this morning, but Sheriff Dwight Nothstein said he was a "drifter" and not a local resident.

He was admitted to the prison on May 15. Nothstein admitted the individual had a drug problem.

The inmate was pronounced dead at 5:41 a.m. by a member of the Carbon County Coroner's office.

Coroner Bruce Nalesnik said a post-mortem exam will be done on the individual. He stressed that a post-mortem exam is standard procedure in such an instance.

Nalesnik said resuscitation efforts were made on the individual.

Nothstein said the individual had been in touch with his father while an inmate.
