A pursuit on foot that lasted over an hour occurred yesterday along Route 443 in Mahoning Township between Wal-Mart and Carbon Plaza Mall.

According to Audie Mertz, officer in charge of the Mahoning Township Police Department, the pursuit was initiated when a township police officer observed a male leave Wal-Mart with a TV valued at $898.88 that he did not purchase.

Mertz said that at about 5:30 p.m., the police officer observed the male fleeing the store with the TV.

The officer attempted to stop the male and he fled leading police on a foot chase into the woods between Walmart and the Carbon Plaza Mall.

Police from several other communities, as well as the Pa. State Police, assisted Mahoning. However, the male was able to elude capture.

Mertz said the individuals was a passenger in a vehicle when dropped off at the store.

While attempting to stop the male the officer sustained a minor leg injury.
