In the forefront, Patti Weiss, Western Pocono Community Library circulation desk manager/cataloging manager, went over some bicycle safety rules in observance of Bicycle Safety Month. She talked about the importance of bicycle safety because each year, over 300,000 bike-riding children end up in the hospital. She talked about wearing helmets to protect the brain, checking that your bike's handlebars are tight, air is in the tires and regularly oil your bike's chain. She stressed the importance of wearing bright colors, ride during the day, watch out for obstacles and loose gravel, don't wear loose fitting pants unless they're secured, don't wear flip flops, don't cover your ears and no using cell phones. Obey traffic laws and if riding in a group, ride in single file. She went over important hand signals like showing how to signal making a left-hand turn to, from left, Ambrose Cavalier, 10, Giovanna Kopchik, 5, Marcellina Cavalier, 6, Emma Matiskella, 13 and Larry Matiskella.
