Students, faculty, administrators and parents at Marian Catholic High School, Hometown, continued a long-standing tradition of honoring Mary, the Blessed Virgin Mother, during the school's annual May Procession observance Wednesday.

The Rev. Kenneth Medve celebrated the Mass.The event took place during the morning Mass that preceded classes, followed by the crowning of the Blessed Mother by Kara Sedlack, daughter of Cheryl Sedlack, Weatherly, and Mark Sedlack, Timonium, Md., who had been selected the school's May Queen.At Marian, Sedlack is a member of the National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, Green Club and Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD).Members of her court were: Samantha Faust, daughter of James and Mary Beth Faust, Barnesville; Sabrina Krupko, daughter of Chris and Denise Krupko, Tresckow; and Sara Fatula, daughter of John and Marlene Fatula, Mahanoy City.The Catholic high school has held this annual tribute since it was founded in 1954, a year that was dedicated to the Blessed Mother and called "The Marian Year." It was then that Archbishop John F. O'Hara decided to combine three existing schools (St. Jerome, Tamaqua; St. Mary's, Coaldale; and St. Ann's, Lansford) into one diocesan high school. The new central high school was and still is staffed by the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Sister Bernard Agnes of that order currently serves as school principal.
