The Palmerton boys and girls track teams opened Colonial League action with a pair of wins Tuesday. The Bomber teams defeated Salisbury and Notre Dame.

Pleasant Valley also gained a sweep in its Mountain Valley Conference opener against East Stroudsburg North.

Other local winners included the Lehighton girls track team and the Palmerton tennis squad.

TRACK

Palmerton, Notre Dame GP at Salisbury

Palmerton gained a double sweep in its Colonial League meet against Notre Dame and host Salisbury.

Austin Shupp won both hurdling events and the Bomber boys took two relays in posting a 99-50 decision over the Falcons and a 101-49 victory against the Crusaders. Palmerton also received individual firsts in six other events.

The Lady Bombers also rolled, picking up wins over Salisbury and Notre Dame by scores of 111-39 and 82-68, respectivley.

Palmerton had multiple event winners with Jessica Perira (100, 200, 400) dominating the sprints and Lauryn Solt (high, triple, long ) controlling the jumping events.

Jess Debski also picked up wins in both hurdling events for the Bombers.

Pleasant Valley gained a sweep of East Stroudsburg North in both schools' Mountain Valley Conference opener.

The PV boys won all three relay events and gained multiple wins from John Wathen (800, 1600) and Dakota Everett (shot, discus) to post an 87-63 victory. The Bears also benefitted from their depth, earning 33 points from second-place finishes.

In the girls meet, Pleasant Valley gained firsts from eight different individuals. The Lady Bears outpointed their opponents 42-4 in the middle and long distance events.

PM East-Lehighton

Lehighton earned a split with Pocono Mountain East in Mountain Valley Conference action. The girls won, 95.5-54.5, while the boys fell, 98-52.

Gwen Remaley had quite a day for the Lady Indians. Remaley won the discus and shot put events, breaking her own school record in shot put with a throw of 38-2 1/2. Riley Durishin (high jump and long jump) and Sage Terembula (100m, 200m, and 400m Relay) also picked up event wins for Lehighton.

In the boys meet, Pocono Mountain East's depth was just too much for Lehighton, as the Cardinals won 11 of the 18 events and took second in the seven events the Indians won.

Lehighton did get multiple wins from Dominik Mystkowski (pole vault and javelin) and Montero Thompson (100m and 200m).

Bangor-Palmerton

Palmerton received a pair of wins in singles play to help gain a 3-2 Colonial League victory over Bangor.

Spencer Shigo and Kevin Dayton both recorded straight-set wins at No. 2 and 3, allowing the Blue Bombers to improve to 4-2 overall and 3-2 in the league. Shigo and Dayton also improved to 4-2 individually with the wins.

Tony Gardo and Rich Roselli added a straight-set win in doubles play.
