A 6-year-old girl died and two others were seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash that occurred about 11:35 a.m. on Sunday along SR61, in West Brunswick Township, Schuylkill County.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said the crash occurred as Victoria Place, 27, of Minersville, driving a 1996 Plymouth Breeze, was exiting the parking lot of Faith Church, while a 17-year-old male from Schuylkill Haven was driving a 2005 Honda Accord southbound at a high rate of speed in the passing lane of SR61.

Troopers said Place began to pull onto 61 and hesitated, stopping in the right lane southbound. The teen applied the brakes on his Honda and swerved to the right. The front of the Honda struck the drivers' side door area of the Plymouth. Both vehicles traveled about 80 feet after impact before coming to rest.

Place and her two passengers, the 6-year old and a 3-year-old female, were flown by Medevac helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. The 6-year-old died a short time after arrival. Place and the other female were admitted in serious condition. Troopers said the two young girls were backseat passengers.

The teen male driver was taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-E. Norwegian St., Pottsville.

Damages were termed severe to both vehicles.

Assisting at the scene were state police reconstruction and forensic service units from the Reading barracks. Also assisting were Orwigsburg Fire Company volunteers, and ambulances from Orwigsburg, Pottsville, and New Ringgold.

The southbound lane was closed for about four and a half hours due to the crash. The investigation is continuing, troopers added.
