Ball gowns get second chance

The Tamaqua Area Faith Fellowship Network recently donated 100 gowns from its "Belle of the Ball" program to the Bethlehem YWCA, which is hosting a "Prom Dress Day" March 23 at the State Theatre in Easton.

George Taylor, one of the organizers, said of the donation "It's a nice touch, since we 'borrowed' the Belle of the Ball idea from the Bethlehem Y."Taylor expressed thanks to Deb Davies and Gwyn Evans for championing the project for TAFFN for the last two years. He said the program can continue with the full support of all the Tamaqua congregations.Last year 300 gowns were collected, and over 200 distributed. This year's collection was not as much, but still about 25 gowns were distributed. Prom gown projects have sprouted up in other local communities.Dream Come True Blue Ridge Chapter is currently collecting gowns for its annual event, which will be held from 4-7 p.m. April 3 at Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe. For more information on TAFFN, go to
