Spectators who believe they may soon see a falling Shamrock should know their eyes haven't deceived them.

In recognition of St. Patrick's Day weekend, the Covered Bridge Inn will sponsor the second annual Shamrock Drop in Little Gap Square.

The four-day event will begin on Thursday, said Ron Gilbert, owner, who added it comes on the heels of its highly successful New Year's Ball Drop held in Little Gap Square.

Gilbert said the 1,000 lighted shamrocks made by Shawn Kresge Electric, of Jim Thorpe, will drop from the sky at 10 p.m. Saturday, March 16, in the middle of a four-day celebration.

The celebration kicks off Thursday evening at the Inn's regular Red Solo Cup Party. Jesse & Josiah will provide acoustic entertainment from 7-10 p.m., while the room will be filled with people eating Irish wings and Irish pizza. As a special feature, "Kenny the Leprechaun" will make a surprise appearance.

Friday will be an evening to quietly enjoy the authentic Irish cuisine being served, along with the regular menu with soft Irish music playing in the background.

On Saturday, festivities begin with the eighth annual St. Patty's Day parade in Little Gap starting at 6:30 p.m. The parade will be led by Piper Dave (The pipe sergeant), and will feature Scottish Highland shaggy cows, decorated goats, dogs, and other interesting animals along with tractors, cars, and floats. Everyone is invited to wear their green and join in the parade as it makes its way in Little Gap Square. After the parade, the celebration will continue inside the Inn, with Billy McGovern providing the Irish entertainment. Later, the crowd will gravitate out in the square for the Shamrock Drop at 10 p.m.

"Saturday, if you are Irish, be there," Gilbert said. "If you want to party like the Irish, be there."

On Sunday, St. Patrick's Day, the Inn will serve an Irish farm breakfast, along with the Irish specials, beginning at 11 a.m. An "End of the ski season party" will then be held for those to enjoy the Irish experience with green wings and green beer. Jeni Hackett will provide the acoustic entertainment from 4-7 p.m.

The Covered Bridge Inn, an authentic American Tavern, expresses the true Irish tradition with its dark wood trim, pressed tin ceiling, and friendly atmosphere. These all provide the perfect setting to experience the authentic Irish tradition.

It is located at the base of Blue Mountain Ski Area in the village of Little Gap just 4 miles east of Palmerton.
