Prothonotary’s report

A total of 378 cases were started in June in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of cases is as follows:

Civil actions, 28; custody complaints, 24; complaints to modify custody, 11; district justice appeals, 4; divorce complaints, 24; complaints in ejectment, 3; license appeal, 1; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 7; name change petition, 1; protection from abuse petitions, 31; protection from sexually violent individual petition, 1; quiet title action, 1; zoning appeal, 1; judgments, 216; miscellaneous cases, 3; official oath, 1; stipulations/waivers of liens, 4; and writs of executions, 17. The office also processed 83 applications for U.S. passports and assisted the public in the processing of 75 passport renewal applications.

Behrens’ financial report for June shows $32,468.92 was generated as follows: prothonotary’s fees, $25,768.31; interest income, $2.34; custody/divorce fees, $1,665; PFA Surcharge, Sheriff; $75; PFA Surcharge, Courts; $75; data processing fees, $3,910.77; stenographer fees; $972.50; and remote access fees, $1,200.

The prothonotary also remitted $4,709.70 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $95.20 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996. Another $1,170.19 was deposited in the Prothonotary’s Automation Fund for future use in automating the office.
