They were married Feb. 14, 1987.Police arbitrationThe Borough of Saint Clair filed a suit disputing a ruling made by a board of arbitration concerning the borough's contract with its police officers.On August 26 a decision was rendered which amended the overtime section of the contract by ruling overtime be offered fulltime officers first on a rotating schedule. The borough objects to this ruling and is asking the county court to void the section dealing with overtime and the assignment of officers as it ruled. The borough feels this ruling impinges on the rights of the mayor and takes away the mayor's power over the police chief and the police officers.Guilty pleasBrian Herbert Stout, 44, Frackville, entered a guilty plea to charges of theft, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief, was sentenced by Judge D. Michael Stine to serve one to six months in prison, pay $50 to the Criminal Justice Enhancement Account fund, court costs and make restitutution to Robert Bykowski $2,135.80 for damages to his truck in West Penn, Shenandoah, in January 2005. He was cited by Trooper Michael Breznik.Jeffrey T. Klinger, 43, Tremont, pleaded guilty to violation of the rule that only a certified minor can blast coal or rock in a mine and the charge of violating the method explosives should be stored, was sentenced by Judge Jacqueline Russell to serve 60 days on probation and pay all costs of prosecution. A charge of unlawful to employ non-certified miners was nol prossed. On Dec. 1, 2004, an explosion occurred in the R&D Coal Company deep mine on Buck Mountain in Tremont Township with one minor fatally injured and four others injured.Found guiltyJoseph R. Achenbach Jr., 57, of Saint Clair, was adjudged by Judge John E. Domalakes to be guilty of charges of driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol and careless driving following a non-jury trial. Charges of DUI of drugs and driving under combined influence were nol prossed. Sentence was deferred to Oct. 28. He was cited by Patrolman Martin Sterner, Saint Clair police, last Nov. 1.Tamaqua borough suitThe Borough of Tamaqua filed a civil suit against Jane E. Bruno and Joseph P. Griffin, of 213 Orwigsburg St., seeking $14,798.63 plus court costs and legal interest and fees. The suit claims under the borough's housing rehabilitation plan $14,265 was loaned to the couple to make repairs to their property and they have failed to repay the loan.Guilty pleasEdgar Leonard Guzman PInto, 28,. Bloomsburg, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol under the highest rate, stop sign violation and driver required to be llicensed. Judge Cyrus Palmer Dolbin accepted the guilty plea and deferred sentence to Oct. 28.Drop chargeJames Steven Weitzel, also known as Jose Figuero, 45, Lykens, had a charge of selling or transfering of firearms dismissed by Judge John E. Domalakes. He was charged by Patrolman Eugene Yourey, Pottsville police, of not possessing a license to transfer a revolver to another person.Treasurer's reportCounty Treasurer Jacqueline McGovern reported the cash balance of all county accounts at the end of August totaled $30,800,352.40, of which she has $11,873,950.21 invested in interest earning accounts.The expenditure for the month of all accounts was $10,087,787.38. The general fund at the end of the month showed a balance of $16,479,141.19; county agencies, $2,365.805.79; Rest Haven Home, $1,528,.835.99; Department of 9-1-1, had $1,943,519.32. Tax monies received, real estate, $387,290.91; funded debt, $19,165.68; per capita, $11,039.18.Revenues from sale of dog license, $337; fish, $6; hunting, $6,462; bingo, $260 and small game of chance, $1,525; magistrate fees, $65,973.99; tariff from land telephones for 9-1-1 was $454,622.16 and hotel tax, $23,207.96.Emergency FireRussell Hill, 45, 363 W. Patterson St., Lansford, failed to convince Judge D. Michael Stine that he was not setting a brush fire in the the state game land in West Penn Township on purpose but needed the light to find a flashlight he lost in the dark. Hill said he was fishing in the Schuylkill River and said he caught a lot of fish. He said he was putting the fire out after finding his flashlight but by that time he saw several cars with flashing lights and he was arrested. He claimed he didn't know he was on state game lands.Stine sympathized with him as he also is an outdoor man but told Hill it was illegal to start a fire in the game lands and fined him $75 and costs.
