Marion Bossard, a resident of The Village at Palmerton, celebrated her 93rd birthday on May 11.

Born in Allentown, her parents moved to Palmerton when she was 4 years old, because her mother wanted to live near her family.Marion attended the Aquashicola School until 10th grade. She has fond memories of that school, as it was a bit smaller and more personal. She then attended the bigger Palmerton High School for the last two years, graduating in 1938. She wanted to go to college to become a journalist, but things don't always go the way you plan them and she had to forego her dream.The next step in her life was marriage and a family. When asked about her husband, Marion smiles and says, "He had the best pick-up line ever. I was standing on the corner at Delaware Avenue at Krex's store waiting for a bus to take me home. I was meeting friends later to swim in Aquashicola. Claude Bossard pulled up to the corner and said, 'Can I take you somewhere?'"Marion replied, "You're going the wrong way!" Claude smiled back at her, "but this car turns around!" She laughed and got in.She had known Claude from work at N.J. Zinc. She worked in testing and he was employed in the research department. Instead of joining her friends for swimming, she spent the rest of the day with Claude, swimming in Lake Harmony.The couple dated and married in 1952. Marion eventually went to work for Western Electric and Claude worked in insurance as a supervisor for Baltimore Life Insurance Company. Marion did get to do a bit of journalism later when she became the public relations writer for her church, Salem United Methodist. She would write articles telling of the different social events the church was having and publish them in the local paper.She still enjoys writing and reading very much, especially her Bible. She finds joy in the Bible study assignments that her church brings to her. Marion stays active, and exercises, plays bingo, enjoys "word game mornings," plays Scrabble with friends, and lends her voice during hymn sings. She says she's happy to be with others, to play games and feel young.She has one stepson, Richard Bossard, who lives in Tennessee.
