That's the idea behind the annual Sidewalk Sale in Downtown Palmerton, where bargain shoppers will be in full stride in search of deals. The 42nd annual event will take place Thursday through Saturday. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 9 a.m. to closing on Saturday. As usual, multiple businesses will set up shop throughout an area that spans several blocks of Delaware Avenue eager to sell their products.Bernie Shea, owner of Shea's Hardware, Inc. at 266 Delaware Ave., said the sale comes at a good time for businesses, which tend to be slower this time of year."It equates to a lot of people shopping in Palmerton," Shea said. "This just gives us another shot in the arm, and we look forward to another wonderful year."Kevin Koch, president, of Koch's Televisions-Appliances, which owns stores at 526 Delaware Ave., as well as 520 Coal St., Lehighton, said the sale's "been very successful for many years.""It's a great thing for the community," Koch said. "It's great to see the support from the community."Koch added, "For us, personally, we do very well.""It's one of the things that we're glad to be in the community," he said. "They support us tremendously, and it's expanded our trading area even further south."
