Haley Cope of Lehighton is participating in the Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Sciences (PGSS) at Carnegie Mellon University. She is a student at Jim Thorpe Area High School and the daughter of Peggy Cope.
PGSS is a rigorous, five-week program which provides talented Pennsylvania rising seniors with enrichment experiences in science and math and encourages them to pursue careers in science and technology.
While attending the Governor's School, all students live on campus at Carnegie Mellon and take lecture and laboratory courses. The also take part in team research projects and field trips.
Only 60 students statewide were accepted into this year's program from among 515 applicants.
