The Albrightsville Fire Company recently held its annual horse show at the Getz arena in Albrightsville.

The fire company's safety house was used as the registration desk for the event.Mary Ann Bosak-Baer of New Ringgold was the judge. She recently moved into the area from Punxsutawney.She has been around horses all her life training, showing, coaching and judging. Bosak-Baer has been judging open, 4-H and fair shows for 35 years, and enjoys doing a little bit of everything.She has worked with 20 4-H state champions and took three on to the national level.Presently she does not have any horses but she and her husband Dan are looking for land to buy. She said all the horses and riders she worked with are still in Western Pennsylvania.The Albrightsville show is special to her because she was a 22-year member of the Central Fire Department of Punxsutawney, where she was the first woman engine operator and drove the rescue trucks, in addition to teaching fire prevention especially to preschoolers.Lorraine Boyles was organizer of the show.Blue ribbon winners could receive an extra prize of some horse equipment donated by Purple Haze Center, the Finger Lakes Thoroughbred adoption program. For information go to FingerLakesTAP.org.An art show was also featured and there were outdoor tack (horse equipment) rooms offering whatever was needed by the horsemen.Stakes classes in open English pleasure, open western pleasure and cloverleaf barrels had cash prizes. They also had to be entered in another class in the division to be eligible for the stakes.The next show to be held at the Getz ring is Sept. 1 to benefit Special Olympics.
