This month's local TV report by Senator David G. Argall (R-29) highlights the inaugural Schuylkill County Youth Summit recently held at the Schuylkill County Courthouse.
The event featured local legislators, business leaders and community organizations in a forum-setting with over 150 local high school students, who asked questions ranging from education, government and jobs.
"The students were engaged and shared their genuine concerns about our region," Argall said. "Events like these not only give the students the perspectives of the difficult issues we face in the public and private sector, but it allows us to hear genuine concerns from the future generation of decision-makers."
Argall encouraged the students to stay and help improve Schuylkill County for the future.
"You have to want to do it, you have to build the skills and you will have to take some risks," Argall said, who told the story of a local visionary risk taker, Dick Yuengling. "You may have an unpaid internship, but that experience could lead to great things down the road in your career."
Also participating in the program were Schuylkill County Commissioner Gary Hess; Kay Jones, Executive Director of Schuylkill County's VISION; Diane Rowland of Schuylkill County Drug and Alcohol Program; Lorraine Felker, Superintendent of Schuylkill Haven School District; Frank Zukas, President of Schuylkill County Development Corporation; Bob Carl, Executive Director of Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce; Brad Gotshall of Frackville Borough Council; Gina Gargano, Executive Director of Schuylkill County Visitors' Bureau; and Mike McCord of Representative Neal Goodman's (D-123) office.
