Coaldale police charged a borough man after an altercation at 4 p.m. May 27.

Mario Joseph Mascola, 57, of 23 W. Ruddle St., was charged with simple assault and harassment.

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Officer Paul Williams, here's what happened:

Williams received a report of a disturbance at 23 W. Ruddle St, and spoke with Mascola's girlfriend, who said he had gotten into a fight with a Robert Anderson after returning home from a bar, highly intoxicated. She told Williams that Mascola had become angry because she had called Anderson over to cut her grass with her son.

Williams spoke with Anderson, who said that after he had cut the grass, Mascola challenged him to a fight. Anderson said he refused and Mascola punched him seven times in the mouth and on the right side of his head.

Anderson also said Mascola kept hitting him until the woman's son physically restrained Mascola.

Williams noted that Anderson's lip was bleeding and that he had several red marks on the right side of his head.

After speaking with Anderson, Williams arrested Mascola without incident inside the house.
